According to the Dunya News, a petition has been filed against the
biggest Search Engine of the world, Google, for doing business in
Pakistan without registering the company in the country and having its
office here.
This petition has been filed by Mr.
Kamil Muzaffar with Intellectual Property Organization (IPO) of
Pakistan. It has challenged Google’s authorities for doing business
without having any physical office, and registering the company
according to the laws of Pakistan.
According to the sources, after the
holidays of Eid, IPO would call Ministry of Information Technology and
Telecom, Pakistan’s Telecommunication Authority (PTA), and the
representatives of Google in Pakistan.
The petitioner is of the view that all
the operations of Google are illegal in the country as it is not
registered here. According to the petitioner, Google is earning millions
of dollars just by a registered domain PKNIC, but it is not giving a
single rupee tax on its earnings.
Petition claims that Google is violating the intellectual copyrights and is also evading taxes for last ten years.
Let us mention here that once FBR
suggested to tax Google, but it was unable to do anything because of
many reasons, and one of them was that the company was not a registered
one.
Once Lahore High court had also asked
Google to appear in the court during the hearing of the petition against
the ban of YouTube in Pakistan, but neither the representatives of
Google appeared in the court, nor they submit any reply or request for
being unable to attend the proceedings of the court.
Karachi: The Sindh High Court has directed the Pakistan
Telecommunication Authority (PTA) to declare its final step towards the
complaint lodged by one of the young woman for deleting her Facebook account.
The case has been taken to the court by the petitioner Umme Laila
Naz. The petitioner has filed case against her relatives who are alleged
to created facebook account by her name, using her pictures. According
to the details, Laila had been engaged to Naveed Siddiqui in 2009.
Naveed is son of Naeem Akhtar Siddiqui. Mehwish Siddiqui, resident of
Surjani town is said to be the real culprit along with her sons, Faisal
and Farrukh.
Laila alleged Mehwish with the charge of deliberately trying to end
up the engagement ties of the two fellows by doing such thing.
Advocate Munir Ahmed Khan, the petitioner’s lawyer demanded the PTA
to take strict notice of the issue. The fake facebook IDS bearing her
name should be deleted that have her pictures on the social website.
The petitioner also asked the police authorities to take legal action
against the culprits for violating her personal pictures and her name
for their motives. FIR should be registered against the involved men,
she demanded.
The case hearing has been adjourned till next week that is 14 of
October. On the given date, the PTA is asked to present its last stance
in the case.
KARACHI: The Sindh
government has decided to ban instant messaging and voice-over-Internet
Protocol (VoIP) clients Skype, Viber and other communication networks,
possibly including Tango and WhatsApp, for three months in the province
for security reasons, Express News reported on Thursday.
The decision was taken during a meeting between Sindh Chief Minister
Qaim Ali Shah and other officials including the additional IG Karachi,
DG Rangers and representatives of intelligence agencies.
Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Memon confirmed the decision in a
press briefing. He said that the networks would be banned because
terrorists are using them, having switched over from regular mobile
services. Memon said the Sindh government has also requested the federal
government to contact these companies and ask them for “access”.
This is not the first time communication services have been blocked in the name of security. A number of temporary cellular service blocks were implemented in 2013 by the government as an anti-terrorism measure.
In 2011, the government ordered all Internet Service Providers (ISPs) to discontinue all virtual private network (VPN) services
in Pakistan to prevent extremists from using the secure networks for
communication. It is unclear whether this order was fully implemented.
News of the upcoming blockage comes the same day as Freedom House, an independent watchdog organisation, launched a report ranking Pakistan among the bottom 10 countries on net freedom.
The report stated that various political and social obstacles to net
freedom have been put in place by successive governments in the name of
fighting terrorism.
In blocking these services, Pakistan follows in the footsteps of Saudi Arabia, where Viber is banned.
After the appointment of Chairman and Members of Pakistan
Telecommunication Authority, the government of Pakistan is all prepared
to auction 3G licenses in Pakistan.
The government, in this regards, has finalized the policy directive for the auction of long awaited 3G licenses in the country.
As per information that we have got, a high-level committee has been formed to expedite the auction process.
Pakistani consumers have been waiting
for 3G networks to get better data connections over mobile phones for
years. Earlier in 2011-12, at least two efforts for auction 3G licenses
failed due to various reasons.
Even now the auction has been made
possible through a Supreme Court order that directed the government to
immediately appoint Chairman and Members for early auction of 3G. After
which the appointments were made in almost a rush.
It merits mentioning here that new telecom licenses, such as 3G spectrum, can’t be auctioned without PTA chairman and members.
As soon as the appointments were made,
activity for auction of 3G licenses went high. Chairman PTA and
Minister IT and Telecom has already briefed the senate’s standing
committee on Telecom and confirmed that policy directive has been
finalized.
Minister further told the senate body
that a high-level committee – constituted by the Prime Minister himself –
will approve the policy for further proceedings on the auction.

We’ve all been Windows users at some point. Even many hardcore Mac users
today probably have a strong history with the much maligned operating
system. One thing that everyone will probably agree with is this:
Windows XP is one of the best operating systems that Microsoft has
served us consumers. And now, it is time to say goodbye to Windows XP.
t’s official. Support for Windows XP is ending on the 8th of August 2014. As is the norm with these things, users are given ample time to make the switch if necessary. For individual users, this should be an easy fix. The chances are you’re using Windows 8 already anyway.
For businesses, though, especially the small to medium sized ones, the one-year breathing space might be more than necessary. After all, it’s not only about changing operating systems. Hardware upgrades and new purchases may also be called for. Then there’s the learning curve to get used to the changes.
Of course, one may opt to stick with Windows XP till their device dies on them. Microsoft is not stopping anyone from doing that, but without support for the software, it’s very much akin to having a car for which you can’t buy parts anymore. At the end of the day, you might as well make it easier on you then, by saying goodbye to Windows XP.
It is worth noting, though, that Microsoft has not scrimped on its efforts to convince people to stop using XP. In fact, they released an infographic wishing XP a happy retirement, urging people to upgrade to Windows 8. Considering the fact that 37.7 percent of PCs in the world are still running on Windows XP, Microsoft’s efforts are justified.
Take a look for yourself, in case you’re one of those who need some convincing.

Samsung clearly don’t want to be left behind in the gold rush. Following
the release of Apple’s gold iPhone, Samsung has announced it will be
launching its very own golden phone.
The new Gold Edition Galaxy S4 will be available in two options, a
Gold Pink model or a Gold Brown. The technology company has been showing
off the new handsets on its United Arab Emirates social media outlets.
It is unlikely that these luxurious handsets will reach global
distribution but instead look to be targeted at a well-off demographic,
similar to the one that the Nokia Oro was aimed at.
But at least Samsung can say it too has a golden flagship product.
Monitory Desk has sent a report to
current Prime Minister of Pakistan, Mian Nawaz Shareef on opening of the
world’s famous social video website Youtube. It is expected that the
website will be opened by PTA before Nawaz Shareef tour to America. In
this regard Ministry of Information Technology has given green signal to
the site.
There are news that all the blasphemy
content has been successfully blocked on Youtube by PTA. Lets see its
just a rumor or this time a serious news, will get to know after 48
