After the wave of Turkish drama serials, the movie industry is also set
to hit the Pakistani media industry. “Mohabbat Ek Ittefaq” is the
Turkish movie that would be screened from 14 October in Pakistani
cinemas. For the premier the actress of the movie also expected to
arrive by the end of this month. On the appearance of such news, various
Pakistani celebrities have expressed displeasure and opposed the
‘Turkish wave’ stating it to be ‘invasion’ on the media industry.
Humaima Malik, Saima, Mustafa Qureshi have opposed the screening of
the movies while the film director Syed Noor said that the foreign
material screening would help in learning. The movie has done a huge
business in Turkey making up to 5 zillion rupees. It is a love based
story. It has been learnt that Pakistani dealers have signed contracts
with Turkish media industry. Soon screening of Turkish movies in the
local cinemas would be a common practice.
Some are optimistic while some are pessimistic about the Turkish
‘invasion’. Airing foreign content is fine in some aspects but allowing
them to ‘invade’ our media industry. That should be permissible? It is
seen that Turkey continues to extend its growth in terms of market
capacity too in Pakistan. The super markets have Turkish products, from
carpets to grocery items. Has any country ever been so open about
promoting Pakistani work or goods? No! Airing foreign content on prime
time, how is that justifiable?
Need is to reviving our own culture, media industry. Screening
foreign contents is doing well to the media dealers and Turkish
marketers, suppliers, media people. But we, as a nation are losing our
worth.
